Editing videos can be a complicated task, especially if you are not used to such work before. But, with the right software, even this can become easy. One such program which allows you to edit videos with ease, is Pinnacle Studio.
This application from Corel, can also be used to create montage and slideshow videos from photos. Pinnacle Studio has a beautiful interface, with a dark theme. There are 3 panes in the GUI, each of which has a specific function.
To start a video editing project, you must use the importer. There are 3 options to begin with. You can either import videos and combine them to one video, or add many photos and create a video using them. Alternatively, you can use Pinnacle Studio, to record videos directly from a video capture device like a camera, or even your mobile phone.
There is a side-panel on the left edge of the application’s window. The options on the sidebar are as follows:
- Sound Effects
- Montages and Templates
- Sound Stage
- Triple Scoop Music
- Muserk Sound Effects
- Disc Menus
The Projects tab lets you open, save, resume a video editing project in Pinnacle Studio. To import some media files to your project, select create a new project bin. This is basically a folder, in which the images and videos can be accessed within the library pane.
The quick import option is really helpful to get you started almost instantly. Simply, right-click on the library pane, and select the media which you wish to add to the library. There is another way to do this, by using Windows File Explorer, and dragging a selection of files from it, to the interface of Pinnacle Studio. The library pane will display the files which you added, with a thumbnail preview for each, and the names of each media file.
You can left click on a video or photo in the library pane, and this will display a larger preview of the same on the right pane. The preview pane has a dual view (source view and timeline view), and can be moved to fit anywhere in the window.
The timeline bar which is on the lower half of the Pinnacle Studio GUI, shows the content which has been added to the video. On the very bottom of the timeline, there is a ruler which represents the numerical position, in terms of seconds and minutes, and has a scroll bar You can click on this bar and move the mouse away to navigate the timeline. If you click on the time bar itself, you will be able to change the zoom view of the previews.
To create a slideshow movie, all you need to do, is select a bunch of photos from your library. Drag them to the timeline and they will be added to the slideshow. Next you have click on the SmartMovie tool, which can be found just above the timeline. To add some music to your slideshow, hit the side panel, select an audio track, and drag it to the timeline.
You can now select the preview option, sit back and watch the magic as SmartMovie creates a slideshow, complete with transitions for you. And this preview, is played using the built-in video player in Pinnacle Studio. That is how simple it is to create a slideshow movie using the application, in just a few clicks of the mouse.
If you want to create better videos, you can manually adjust every frame and setting for it. You can click on photos or videos on the timeline, and rearrange them by dragging them to a specific position.
To add transitions and effects to your video, use the edit button. This will bring up options such as the A/V track in the timeline. You can use the side panel’s FX, Transitions tabs, and drag the ones you want to the timeline. You can drag a clip towards the length of the timeline, to increase or decrease the time duration of the clip.
You can add effects to the videos, is by right-clicking on the videos or photos, and selecting transitions. Other options in the context menu include pan and zoom, scaling, rotation, adjust the duration, etc. Another way to add effects and transitions between two photos or videos, by dragging an effect to the timeline
Similarly, to split a video, you can use the Split clip tool, after marking the time position, where you want to cut the video from.
There is a cool Morph Transition option, using which you can mark elements in 2 similar looking photos, for. e.g: landscape photos which have mountains, rivers, etc, and when the transition happens from the 1st photo to the 2nd photo, the animation looks much more beautiful.
The Editor tab in the library pane has many advanced options which allow you to edit the settings for the s. Select the Editor tab in the left pane, pick one from 2D-3D, Camera, Color, Keyers, Artistic, and also customize the text style, color, range, rotation, size, position, shadow, cropping, border and more.
There are a lot of customization options, including preset titles, which you can add to the videos. Or you can always create your own styles too, even 3D titles. Just select a title style and type a caption, and you are good to go.
There is a DVD burning tool, which comes free with Pinnacle Studio, and you can use the MyDVD option, to export your video to a DVD or Blu-ray disc, or to your computer’s hard drive. You can export the media into the following formats: AVCHD, DVD (DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R or DVD+RW, dual layer) DV, HDV, AVI, DivX, WMV, MPEG-1/-2/-4, Flash, 3GP, WAV, MP2, MP3, MP4, H.264, DivX Plus MKV, JPEG, TIF, TGA, BMP.
